I'm a 15 year old digital artist living in the Philippines. I never took any training for drawing, so I basically just kept on practicing. I love video games (mostly RPGs like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, etc) just as much as I love to draw. My spirit animal is the ever-fabulous duck.
My interest in art started when I was 2 years old. To keep me still at gatherings, my mom bought me dinosaur stencils and my dad taught me how to trace them. Soon after, I would draw the dinosaur outlines without the stencil and added details like eyes & ears. My mom bought even more stencils when she noticed I was really getting the hang of it.
My mom can barely draw a stick figure but my dad can copy any drawing he sees. I remember how he would draw very lightly on a piece of paper so that I would have something to trace over.
Eventually, I started to copy drawings of dinosaurs and Marvel & Disney characters from books & CD covers until the time came when I had committed them to memory and no longer require a guide.
At the early age of 4, I started to draw the things that I see in my head and my mom would proudly hang them on the walls of our bedroom. I think she still has the stash of all the doodles I made before.
I’m interested in art because it’s fun and weird. I’ve never had any formal training. I practiced and practiced, occasionally asking my dad to teach me tricks. He’s not an artist, he’s just really good at drawing. I may have been 5 or 6 when my mom introduced me to Windows paint. Sketching will always be my first love but ahhh – the things you can do with paint!
Years passed, and I got better at drawing, now putting a lot more details than before. One time I joined a contest in school and – well, won first prize! Plus, they used my drawing for the Tshirt design during our school’s Family Day! How cool is that! I dabble in watercolor painting from time to time as well.
About 4-5 years ago, my folks bought me my first ever tablet. That was the turning point for me. I found that I could express myself more in so many million ways. The feeling of drawing is something very extraordinary, more so when what I create is from pure imagination. Putting imagination into reality through drawing was something I find exciting and amazing. Mostly when I draw, I draw fantasy. It’s fiction. Anything can happen. There's no limitation.
